“Ser pan comido“
という言葉は聞いたことがあるでしょうか？
スペイン語で使われる慣用句です。
そのままの意味だと、「食べられたパンである(?)」。
ちょっと直訳は難しいですが・・・
そう、パンというのはスペイン語なのです。
Serは英語の「be」動詞です。
※ スペイン語は「Ser」と「Estar」の二つのbe動詞があります。
使い分けはけっこう奥が深いのですが、簡単に言ってしまうと
Estarは変化する状態(いる場所、気分など)、
Serは変化しない状態(名前、人種など)を指すことが多いです。
Panは、そのまま「パン」です。英語では「Bread」なので、アメリカで「パン」と言っても全く通じませんが、スペイン語圏で「パン」と言えば通じますよ。
Comidoは、動詞「Comer：食べる」が変化した形で、「食べた」「食べられた」という意味です。
では、Ser pan comidoはどういう意味でしょう？
これは「とても簡単」という意味です。
例文：
Éste trabajo es pan comido..
→この仕事はとても簡単だ。
英語では、”Piece of cake”という同じ意味の言葉がありますよね。
Ser pan comidoの由来は、昔からパンというのは西洋の食卓に欠かせないもので、もっとも簡単に手に入るものだったからです。
日本ではパンは欧米から入ってきた文化ですが、聖書にも出てくるくらいですから、パンの歴史はとても古いです。
